Slioch & Scots Pines, Loch Maree
Slioch & Scots Pines, Loch Maree

The day had been punctuated by heavy and frequent showers, but towards sunset the skies began to clear. I spent a wonderful hour watching the shifting patterns of light and shadow as clouds moved across the slopes above Loch Maree from the north west.

Slioch dominates the area around Loch Maree, and nowhere more so than in the area around the outlet of the River Grudie. A small wood of ancient Scots pines has survived here. I wanted to combine these two elements in the composition, since for me they are the defining features of this outstandingly beautiful place.
